Entertainment Galore by the Students of Post Graduate Centre
There was entertainment galore on the afternoon of 26th February 2018 by the students of Post Graduate Centre of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal. Performance included traditional dances to modern classics, skit, folk instrumental extravaganza and solo singing.

Shilpa Panambur cleared the UGC NET Examination
Miss. Shilpa Panambur, a student of M. Com Final Year of the Department of Post -Graduate Studies and Research in Commerce of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal passed the UGC NET Examination recently. NET Scores are the important criterion to apply for Assistant Professor jobs at various Colleges and Universities of India. Only 6 per cent of total candidates who appear in exam will be declared qualified.

PG Commerce Faculty and Students presented Research Papers in the UGC Sponsored National Workshop held at GDC
Mr. Sajan, Faculty, Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Commerce and Miss Shilpa Panambur M.Com Final Year and Miss Priyanka, M.Com First Year, presented research papers in the UGC Sponsored Two Day National Workshop and Annual Conference of Mangalore University Economics Teachers Association (MUEA) titled Repositioning Quality Culture in Higher Education-Concerns and Challenges held on 14-15 February 2018. The workshop was Organized by IQAC, Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal In association with Mangalore University Economics Teachers Association. Dr. Sureshramana Mayya, Director of Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Commerce was the chairperson for the paper presentation session on 15th February 2018

Seminar on Vermicomposting Technique at Dept. of Post Graduate Studies in Chemistry
A UGC Sponsored Seminar on Vermicomposting and Organic Manuring was held under the auspicious of Department of Post Graduate Studies in Chemistry on 05.02.2018 in the Audio Visual Hall of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal. Dr. Harish Joshi, Rtd. Professor and HOD of Zoology was the chief resource person. With many real-life examples and cases, he dwelt in detail the history of vermicomposting, how we can preserve mother earth, the raising, and production of earthworms and harvesting worm castings, using worms to decompose organic food waste, turning the waste into a nutrient-rich material capable of supplying necessary nutrients to help sustain plant growth. He amused the students with is a beautiful poem on earthworms and enlightened about different vermicomposting techniques and organic manuring. He explained in detail how vermicompost or worm fertilizer is strictly organic, how it enriches the soil, creates an ecologically safe system of food production and raises land productivity. He impressed the participants how we can reduce the harmful effects of chemicals and pesticides. He reiterated that Cleopatra who renamed the worm as a sacred creature, whose removal from Egypt was punishable by death. Nile Valley is said to be the most fertile tract of land on earth and it is literally one vast bed of earthworm soil.
He suggested that we can feed our worms almost anything, but advised to avoid anything acidic, oranges. Th programme was presided by the Principal of Govinda Dasa College, Dr. B. Muralidhar Rao, Guest of Honour Dr. Sureshramana Mayya, Director, PG Studies who said that by inputting waste, we can get black gold as an output, he suggested to save money by letting worms make compost for us free and fast. Prof. Krishnamurthi, Vice Principal of the College and Prof Neelappa, Dean of the Science were also present on this occasion. Miss. Rashmi Kumari rendered invocation and Mis. Namratha Bhandari compered the programme. Mr. Sharath Kumar introduced the resource person and Mr Karthik GS welcomed the participants and guests. The programme was followed by "Swacha GDC", cleaning of campus.

LAKSHYA 2K18 – Salute to the Indian Brave hearts……: Inter-collegiate UG Competition by Department of Post-Graduate Studies and Research in Commerce

LAKSHYA 2K18 – Salute to the Indian Bravehearts……
Lakshya 2K18 is an Inter-collegiate management fest held at the Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, organized and conducted by Department of Post-Graduation Studies and Research Center in Commerce. This department has conducted several management fests with various themes in the earlier years. However, this year the theme was patriotic and aimed at tributing the Indian soldiers who have been sacrificing their life and youth for safeguarding our nation. The events that were conducted were creative and challenging and as well involved equal amount of fun.
We had a spectacular one day buzz of enthusiastic participants from 16 colleges from in and around Mangalore on 12 February 2018. It was filled with ideas, innovation, creativity, fun and enthusiasm contributed by the best of the minds from various colleges.
The fest began at 9 am with the college anthem sung by Ms. Prarthana and team followed by a mind-blowing act performed by Ms.Kavya and team. The content of the act was based on the lifestyle of Indian soldiers and their family and their sacrifice towards our nation which made the entire audience fill their eyes with tears.
LAKSHYA-2K18 was presided over by Sri. E Janardhana who is the President of H. V. Sangha (R.), Surathkal. The Inaugurator was Dr. R. Nagesh, who belonged to the Indian Army, Education Corps and currently serving as an Associate Professor at St. Agnes College, Mangalore. He gave a notable speech with regards to the life of a soldier and made the audience realize that we are in heaven only because of the sweat and toil of every soldier who is guarding the country at various borders. The chief guest of the day was Prof. Y. V. Rathnakara Rao, he is the Working President of Golden Jubilee Celebration of our college. Apart from that we had our own people Dr. Sureshramana Mayya who is the Director of P. G Center, Principal of our institution Dr. Muralidhar Rao, Vice Principal Prof. Krishnamurthy Rao, Former Coordinator of PG Center Prof. Ramesh Kulai, Staff coordinator Mr. Sajan M Acharya and Staff advisors Mrs. Harsharani and Ms. Ahwitha as the backbone of team LAKSHYA 2K18.
The Master of the Ceremony was Mr. Ashok Rayan Crasta, Student of II M. Com, who did a wonderful job with his pleasing communication which added charisma to the entire fest. The guests, were welcomed by the Student coordinator Ms. Rashmi of II M.Com. The Guest were introduced to the audiences by Ms. Shilpa of II M.Com. Ms. Akshatha Shetty of II M.Com delivered the vote of thanks.
There were various events conducted at various stages and classrooms, for which names of Martyr solders were given such as Filed Marshal K M Cariappa, Captain Vikram Batra, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa and Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.
The events too were named uniquely, i.e. Filed Marshal (All Rounder), Brigadier (Mock Press), Ensign (Advertisement Copy), Commandant (Kannada and English Elocution) and Desi Rangeela (Cultural Event). These events were named after the various ranks of the Indian Soldiers. The various colleges were given team code that of various Indian missiles.
LAKSHYA 2K18 – Salute to the Bravehearts saw the participation of around 200 students from 16 different colleges who participated in events conducted across the day. The most notable part in the entire fest was the event Brigadier (mock press) and Desi Rangeela (Cultural Event) which overwhelmed the entire crowd.
There was a special and surprising flash mob performance by the Team LAKSHYA 2K18 which made the audiences dance on their chairs.
As scheduled, the events were conducted and concluded on time and the valedictory Programme commenced at 5 pm. The guest of the programme was welcomed by Ms.Shravya of I M.com. It was presided over by Sri M.Venkat Rao who is the Secretary of H.V Sangha (R.) Surathkal. He gave an excellent opinion about the theme of the fest and also shared several memories of his life. The winners were felicitated by Dr.Y Bharath Shetty who is the Principal of AJ Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore. He was amazed with the theme of the fest and stressed the need for ethical society even amongst the white-collar jobbed individuals. The winners of the event was announce by student coordinator Mr.Sanket. Vote of thanks was delivered by Ms.Ashwini of II M.com.
